We are built on the principle of minimal data retention—we want to hold as little of your data as possible, for as short a time as possible.

Encrypted Content

When you create a room or secret link, the text and files you upload are stored on our servers. However, we utilize client-side encryption (if password protected) and zero-knowledge principles where possible. For "Quick Secrets", encryption happens entirely in your browser before the data reaches us. We do not have access to your decryption keys.

Usage Data

We collect anonymous usage statistics (e.g., number of rooms created) to monitor system health. We may log standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type for security purposes (e.g., rate limiting and abuse prevention).

3. Data Retention

All data is ephemeral. Content uploaded to PasteRelay is automatically deleted from our servers 24 hours after creation (or sooner, if you set a shorter expiration). If you have an account and select a longer expiration period (e.g., up to 90 days), your data will be retained for that specific duration before being permanently deleted. We do not maintain backups of expired user content.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

We use local storage on your device to store a history of your "Recent Rooms" for your convenience. This data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers. We do not use third-party tracking cookies.

5. Third-Party Services

We use Google Firebase for hosting, database, and storage services. By using PasteRelay, you acknowledge that your encrypted data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure. relying on their robust security standards.
