PasteRelay guide

Copy text from your phone to your computer

Move an address, long link, note, or code snippet between devices using your browser. PasteRelay works with iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, and other devices with a modern browser. You don’t need to install an app or create an account.

You’ll need an internet connection on both devices. They can be on different networks.

Three steps, using a shared link

  1. 1. Create a clipboard on your computer

    Open PasteRelay in your computer’s browser. In Shared Clipboard, choose an expiration and select Create my clipboard. Keep the room open.

  2. 2. Open the same room on your phone

    Select Copy link in the room. Send that link to your phone through a channel you already use, or type a custom room address if you have one. Open the link in your phone’s browser. A QR code is also available as an optional shortcut.

  3. 3. Paste on your phone, copy on your computer

    Copy the text you want to move, paste it into the room on your phone, and add the clip. Return to that room on your computer and use the clip’s copy button. Paste it into your document, browser, or editor.

Sending text in the other direction

To copy text from your computer to your phone, use the same room and reverse the last step: add a clip on your computer, then copy it on your phone. A room is shared in both directions. This is a manual transfer; PasteRelay does not automatically read or synchronize your system clipboard.

Can I send a screenshot or PDF?

Yes. Use Upload File inside the room, then open the uploaded file on the receiving device. Each file must be 20MB or smaller. Larger files need a different transfer method. File uploads are not end-to-end encrypted by Quick Secrets.

If the transfer isn’t working

  • Check that both devices opened the exact same room link and that the room has not expired.
  • If the QR code will not scan, increase screen brightness or open the room link manually.
  • If copying is blocked by your browser, select the text and use your device’s usual Copy action.
  • If you set a room password, enter it on the receiving device too.

Keep the room link private

Anyone with an unprotected room link can access the room. Choose a short expiration for a quick transfer. For a password or private text message, use Quick Secrets, which encrypts the text in your browser and supports a one-view limit. A recipient can still save a copy.
